Just how self-confident is Nicole Voss? Exactly as self-confident as a twentysomething woman would have to be to take nude pictures of herself. And send them in to Playboy magazine.

Which is not to say the 23-year-old, a relatively new resident of Athens-Clarke County by way of Florida, is entirely without fear. Particularly when it came to deciding how to tell her dad, some months after taking those pictures, that she'd be gracing Playboy's pages - including the three centerfold pages - as this year's Miss August.

But, to her credit, she did manage to bring a bit of panache to that daunting task. With the magazine just days away from showing up on newsstands across the country, the intrepid Miss Voss wrote her dad a letter. On official Playboy Playmate stationery. Sealed inside an official Playboy Playmate envelope.

"I held onto it at the mailbox," she said, adding that she asked herself, "Do I really want to do this?"
